Her parents are in their mid-60s and sometimes need financial help, so my wife and her siblings regularly contribute toward their care and expenses. Recently, she gave them about $8,000 toward a new car, and she also pays for medications and other needs. My parents are the same age and aren’t wealthy either, and my mother has started asking why my wife does so much for her parents but not ours. I told my wife I thought she should contribute equally to my parents, perhaps helping with their roof or taking them on a vacation.
