I grew up in a house where cruelty rarely shouted. My father controlled the family with silence, cold stares, and humiliation so constant it became ordinary. Food itself became a weapon. The pantry stayed locked, and only Caleb had a key. Behind that white wooden door were cereal, cookies, crackers, peanut butter, and all the small comforts other children never thought twice about. In our house, food represented worth. Caleb was rewarded simply for existing. I earned leftovers by staying invisible.
