My Daughter, My Son, and an Inheritance Dispute..

After my husband passed away, I moved in with my son and daughter-in-law at their suggestion. I agreed because living alone had become difficult, but their home was small, and my daughter-in-law did not contribute financially to my expenses while I was living there.

Recently, my daughter-in-law insisted that I divide my inheritance equally between my two children. She argued that because she and my son had housed me for several years, they deserved a larger share of the money and expected me to spend more of it on them.

My son supported her position and reminded me that my daughter had lived abroad and was not able to help care for me during that time. He claimed it was unfair for her to receive the same inheritance after they had provided me with a place to stay.

I explained that my daughter has significant financial challenges and that I have helped her occasionally with small amounts of money. I felt she should not be excluded from the inheritance. My daughter-in-law then stated that my daughter’s financial struggles were not their concern and insisted they deserved a greater share because they had supported me for years. Their reaction left me heartbroken and unsure of what to do next.
