Back in preschool, our teacher gave us a simple assignment: draw a picture of our family. I proudly drew four people and carefully labeled them in my messy handwriting as “Me,” “My Brother,” “Dad,” and “Aunt Susan.” When my teacher noticed that my mom was missing from the picture, she became concerned and called her to discuss it.
Later that day, my mom gently asked why I hadn’t included her in the drawing. Everyone expected there to be a serious reason, and the room felt surprisingly tense as they waited for my answer.
Without hesitation, I smiled and said, “Because Mom is so beautiful, and I can’t draw beautifully!” My innocent explanation instantly changed the mood, replacing worry with laughter.
The misunderstanding was cleared up, although my poor Aunt Susan had accidentally taken my mom’s place in the drawing. To this day, it’s one of those funny childhood memories that still makes our family laugh—and may my Aunt Susan forgive me!
