My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at a luxury resort, but shortly after we arrived, I unexpectedly got my period and experienced severe pain that forced us to cancel many of our planned activities. On our last day, he angrily told me, “You ruined our holiday,” and said he was tired of dealing with my period pain. I explained that menstruation and the pain were beyond my control, but he refused to understand, and we barely spoke for the rest of the trip.
Back home, I was deeply hurt by his words. Instead of ignoring what happened, I spoke with my friends and decided to rebook the exact same resort, room, and package. This time, however, I booked the trip for myself and my best friend, Anna, rather than my husband.
The next morning, my husband found the booking confirmation on the kitchen counter and assumed I had planned a second chance for the two of us. When I told him the vacation was actually for me and my friend, he was stunned. He accused me of being petty and claimed I was “destroying the marriage over one comment.”
Now I’m questioning whether I overreacted or simply stood up for myself. I don’t believe it’s fair to be blamed for a natural biological process that I can’t control, and I wanted to make it clear that hurtful comments have consequences. Was I wrong, or was I justified in setting that boundary?
