My wife had always dreamed of visiting Turkey, and my mother-in-law wanted to come along as well. I agreed on one condition: she had to let us enjoy our vacation without interfering. To avoid any tension, we even booked rooms on different floors, convinced that a little distance would guarantee a relaxing trip.
At exactly 6 a.m. on our first morning, my wife and I were jolted awake by loud banging and scraping noises from the room directly above us. It sounded as though the ceiling might collapse from all the commotion. Curious and frustrated, we went upstairs to find out what was happening.
When my mother-in-law opened the door, she was already fully dressed for the beach, wearing a sunhat with a towel over her shoulder. She looked cheerful and completely unaware that she had just disturbed the entire floor.
Smiling proudly, she said, “Oh, you’re awake already? I was just about to head to the beach.” Then, noticing our stunned expressions, she added, “I kept my promise—I didn’t come into your room. But waking you up early is my duty!” At that moment, we realized our peaceful vacation was going to be anything but relaxing.
