My parents paid for my college, and now that I have a good job while they’re retired, they asked me to give them 30% of my salary to upgrade their lifestyle. I refused, thinking the conversation was over. That night, my dad called in a panic to say my mom had listed our family home for sale.
When I arrived, I was shocked to see a “For Sale” sign on the front lawn. I was furious because I always believed that house would one day be my inheritance. To me, it was the family’s legacy, and I couldn’t understand why they would choose to sell it.
My mom explained that after I rejected their request, she contacted a real estate agent immediately. She said she and my dad had spent years sacrificing for me and deserved to enjoy retirement by traveling and living comfortably, even if it meant selling their home to fund those dreams.
I left feeling angry and betrayed. I can’t accept the idea of losing the one thing I always expected would be passed down to me, while my parents believe they have every right to spend the value of their home on the life they want to live.
