My mother-in-law had a habit of criticizing everything I did, no matter how hard I tried. Every visit ended with complaints about my cleaning, cooking, or housekeeping. Eventually, I became so frustrated that I told my husband he could handle all the household chores himself.
To my surprise, he happily took over. He cleaned the entire house, cooked the meals, and made sure everything was ready before his mother came to visit. I stayed out of it, curious to see what would happen.
As expected, my mother-in-law immediately began inspecting the house. She claimed the corners were dusty, the floors were dirty, and after tasting the meal my husband had prepared, she declared the food was terrible. Then, without hesitation, she blamed me for everything, saying I was a lazy wife who couldn’t do anything properly.
My husband was completely stunned. For the first time, he realized his mother had criticized me without even knowing who had actually cleaned and cooked. It became clear that her complaints had never been about the housework—they were simply about finding fault with me, no matter what I did.
