My First Love Never Let Go of the Past..

When I was in school, I dated a boy named Mike. Everything changed when my parents moved me to another city. We stayed in touch through messages for a while, but eventually our conversations stopped, and we both moved on with our lives.

Years later, I returned to my childhood town for a visit. A friend suggested we stop by the local grocery store to see who Mike had married. Curious, I agreed, expecting nothing more than a quick glimpse.

At the checkout counter, Mike’s wife looked at me carefully and asked if I was Olivia. She smiled and said she recognized me because Mike still kept many of my old photos and an entire bag of the letters I had written him. She admitted she had read them all and then asked how long I planned to stay in town.

Embarrassed by the unexpected encounter, I quickly replied that I was leaving soon and was on my way to catch a bus. As we walked away, Mike’s wife said goodbye with a smile that seemed filled with visible relief, leaving me wondering how much of the past still lived in their present.
