Kirk Cameron rose to fame in the 1980s as Mike Seaver on ABC’s hit sitcom *Growing Pains*, earning two Golden Globe nominations and becoming one of the decade’s biggest teen idols. However, he originally had little interest in acting and entered the industry largely at his mother’s encouragement.

At the height of his fame, Cameron converted to Christianity as a teenager. His new convictions led to creative tension on the set of *Growing Pains* as he objected to certain storylines.
