I was on a road trip with my long-term boyfriend when we got into an argument. During the drive, I urgently needed to use a restroom and asked him to stop, but he kept driving. Mile after mile, I became increasingly frustrated and upset, feeling as though my needs didn’t matter to him.
Eventually, I spotted a Denny’s and firmly asked him to take the next exit. He finally pulled into the parking lot, and I immediately got out and rushed inside to find the restroom. Once I was alone in a stall, the frustration overwhelmed me, and I started crying.
After a few minutes, I came out and walked over to the sink to wash my hands. When I looked up at myself in the mirror, I noticed a small Post-it note stuck there. It contained only three simple words: “Love yourself!”
I stood there staring at the message, but somehow those words felt deeply personal in that moment. They reminded me that I deserved to care about my own feelings and needs, especially when I felt ignored or dismissed. It was just a random note from a stranger, but during one of the hardest moments of that trip, it became a quiet reminder that sometimes we need to choose ourselves.
