Millions Of Fans Are Heartbroken As Beloved Icon Passed Away… See more

Classic television fans are mourning the loss of an actor whose work helped define one of the most popular sitcoms of the 1970s. He died at his home in Palm Springs, California, on January 30, 2026, at the age of 79, following complications from cancer.

He became a household name as Lamont Sanford, the level-headed son of Redd Foxx’s character on Sanford and Son. The series ran for six seasons and became an important milestone in television, while his performances later included Baby… I’m Back! and The New Odd Couple.

Beyond acting, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later devoted much of his life to Christian ministry. In the 1980s, he became an ordained minister and continued writing and preaching alongside occasional acting work.

Demond Wilson leaves behind his wife, Cicely, their six children and grandchildren, along with a lasting legacy in television and ministry. His portrayal of Lamont Sanford remains one of the roles that made him beloved by generations of viewers.
