I couldn’t afford a birthday gift for my 13-year-old granddaughter Lily, so I spent weeks knitting her a cardigan with love. At her birthday party, my daughter-in-law cruelly laughed and said the cardigan was only good for mopping the floor, leaving me deeply humiliated, but Lily immediately defended me and begged me to stay. The next day, Lily locked herself in her room and refused to speak to her mother until she apologized. When I arrived, Lily opened the door wearing the cardigan and firmly told her mother to apologize because Granny had spent weeks making it with love. Overwhelmed with guilt, my daughter-in-law broke down and sincerely apologized.
