Lorne Grabher has been fighting since 2016 to restore his personalized “GRABHER” license plate after Nova Scotia revoked it following concerns that it could promote sexual violence against women.A report by McGill professor Carrie Rentschler connected the wording to discussions of gender violence and comments made by Donald Trump, while Grabher maintained that the plate honored his Austrian-German family heritage.
His lawyer argued there was no evidence directly linking the plate to Trump and challenged the Crown’s use of the academic report in the case.
The Nova Scotia Supreme Court later awarded Grabher $750 in court costs, with Justice Pierre Muise saying the amount would “do justice between the parties.”
