I married Thomas, a seriously ill seventy-two-year-old stranger, because he didn’t want to spend his final days alone, and we shared seven quiet days together. After his death, his attorney gave me a green backpack filled with envelopes containing notes about the small acts of kindness and ordinary moments Thomas had carefully remembered.
His final list led me to a botanical garden, farmers’ market, ice cream, and ducks—reminding me that life’s most meaningful moments are often found in simple places.Thomas was my husband for only seven days, but he taught me that kindness can be as simple as listening, remembering, sharing tea, or staying beside someone who feels alone.
