A strange gray-green, hardened lump discovered inside the lid of a brand-new, sealed cigarette pack initially looked like mold, contamination, or a manufacturing defect, especially since the cigarettes themselves appeared completely normal. However, the unusual object was reportedly explained as a harmless byproduct of the automated packaging process, where tobacco dust can mix with small amounts of food-safe adhesive and, under heat, pressure, and vibration, form a hardened clump that becomes trapped inside the box.
