On our wedding night, I felt exhausted and hesitant to begin the celebration everyone expected. Instead, I asked Scott if we could simply talk for a while, and although he agreed, I could sense his disappointment. Later that night, I woke up to the bed shaking slightly. When I looked over the edge, I was stunned to see Scott kneeling beside the bed holding a baby. He quietly explained that the child, named Ella, was his orphaned niece and that he had been caring for her.
The revelation shocked me even more when Scott admitted he had never told me about Ella before. He said he had been afraid that if I knew about the responsibility, I might decide not to marry him. I struggled to process the sudden change in our lives and the realization that such an important part of his world had been kept secret from me until our wedding night.
The following day we moved into Scott’s large estate with Ella, and I couldn’t stop wondering why he had hidden the truth. I began asking questions about his stepsister Maya, Ella’s mother, who he had previously mentioned only briefly. At first Scott became defensive and avoided giving clear answers, but eventually he admitted that he had secretly helped Maya many times in the past.
My doubts deepened when I later discovered a photograph of Scott standing beside a pregnant woman who looked like Maya. The image seemed to contradict the story he had told me and raised new questions about their relationship. Suddenly, what I thought was a simple family secret began to feel like a much bigger mystery.
