Dennis Nilsen grew up in Scotland before joining the British Army and later working as a police officer and civil servant. Between 1978 and 1983, he murdered at least 12 young men and boys in London. His crimes were discovered in 1983 after a plumber found human remains blocking the drains at his flat. Nilsen was convicted of six murders and two attempted murders and sentenced to life in prison.
