In June 2016, 23-year-old Colin Scott from Portland, Oregon, died while visiting Yellowstone National Park with his sister. The pair reportedly ventured off marked trails searching for a place to bathe in a geothermal pool when Colin slipped into scalding hot water. His sister tried to save him but could not reach him safely, and emergency crews were unable to recover his remains because of the extreme temperatures and dangerous terrain. When officials returned the following morning, his remains were no longer visible, and only personal belongings, including his wallet and flip-flops, were recovered.
