Last night, while my husband was away on a business trip, my 16-year-old stepdaughter stayed with me, and everything seemed to be going well until I discovered her in my bedroom, livestreaming my clothes, dresses, and decor to her biological mom on FaceTime while mocking my appearance, taste, and relationship with her dad. She laughed and said, “Can you believe Dad left you for this?” When she noticed me, she panicked, hung up, and accused me of invading her privacy, insisting it was just a joke. I told her she had no right to enter my private space or broadcast my belongings, and she locked herself in the guest room. Now I feel torn between understanding that she’s a teenager caught in a messy divorce and feeling deeply humiliated and disrespected in my own home. I haven’t told my husband because I don’t want to create more conflict while he’s traveling, but I can’t simply pretend nothing happened. I barely slept and keep wondering whether I should confront her again and tell my husband exactly what happened, or whether I’m overreacting and should chalk it up to teenage behavior and move on. What would you do in my situation?
