On a flight, I impatiently showed a girl how to turn on her supposedly black entertainment screen, only to realize two hours later that it had already been working and I had accidentally shut it off while she was choosing a movie. Another night in a rough part of London, I spent ten minutes helping two men push-start a car before realizing they were actually trying to steal it. Meanwhile, a friend hired to care for an elderly woman entered the wrong house by mistake, asked the resident what she wanted for lunch, and only discovered her error when the confused woman explained that she could look after herself; the real client was the neighbor next door. And when I offered a coworker a ride home, she asked me to drop her at a nearby corner, insisting she could walk the rest of the way, so I respected her wishes—only to learn a week later that she had told everyone I had kicked her out of my car. Needless to say, I never offered her another ride!
