My son called from college just to say, “I love you.” He never did that, so I booked a flight that night without telling him. When I arrived at his dorm, his roommate froze as I walked inside and found my son sitting on his bed, exhausted and overwhelmed by two failing grades he had hidden from me. When he asked, “What are you doing here?” I simply replied, “You called me.” He lowered his head into his hands, and instead of lecturing him, I ordered food, sat beside him, and talked with him until 2 a.m. about pressure, asking for help, and all the things we had kept inside for years. I flew home the next morning, and he passed both classes. Sometimes, our children don’t need advice or judgment—they just need to know they’re not alone. ❤️
