The Day I Stopped Waiting for Him

Julian shoved past me and rushed into the bedroom. Seconds later, I heard the closet doors slam open. His clothes were gone. His shoes were gone. Every trace of him had disappeared.

“Where’s my stuff?” he asked, his voice suddenly shaking.

“Downstairs in storage,” I replied evenly. “You have until tomorrow to pick it up.”

That was the moment his confidence cracked. He admitted he had spent the whole day calling me because he thought I would still be waiting for him after he decided he was ready to come back. But this time, I wasn’t waiting anymore-
